The Public Administrator in Missouri Probate

In every county in Missouri there is an elected official known as the “Public Administrator”. In smaller counties this may be only the elected official carrying out all of the duties. In larger counties there is a full time staff. The Public Administrator’s role is not commonly known until you need to become involved, but is can be quite important.

The Public Administrator may act as the Court Appointed Personal Representative (“Executor”) in decedent’s cases, or as Guardian and /or Conservator in cases involving disabled individuals or minors.  They generally serve when there is no appropriate or interested individual to do so, or when there is a dispute or controversy as to who may serve.  Once appointed they function in generally the same manner as an individual serving in that role.
